My father was a giving man and in that spirit if you are thinking of sending flowers we would rather you donate to a charity called Hero's for Children http://www.heroesforchildren.org/ in dads name. This is a charity that is dear to my heart and Dad loved it as well.

For those of you who do not know me, I am William S. Smith Jr., aka William, Bill, Shag, Shaggy, or the Shaggy Dog. For those of you who do know me, enough said. Robert Arthur Frank, aka Bob, honey, daddy, dad, uncle Bob, Franco, and the giant jitter, (by his friends at Fairfield University). And most importantly, friend. With only one exception, that I know of, I have known Bob longer than anyone. (since the third grade at Franklin School) To say that our friendship was instant is a gross misunderstatement. That friendship has more than stood the test of time. We went and did everything together. Bob’s parents were my parents, my parents were his parents. Bob and I were more like brothers than friends. Bob’s real brother Walt was my big brother too. Teaching, shareing and guiding us through our early years. Bob and I went through grade school, high school, and part of college. One stayed in school and the other went off to the military, but our friendship never waivered. While Bob was at Fairfield he met a beautiful young lady who became his future wife, Sue. I was their best man at their wedding, and when I met my future wife Lisa, Bob was our best man. Childern followed and a move by Bob and Sue to Holmdel. A few years later, fate once again stepped in and Lisa and I moved to Aberdeen, a short distance from Bob and Sue. There was racket ball on Wednesday nights, which we really enjoyed. A shared passion for boats also played an important part in our lives. Most of our early lives was spent aboard Bob’s parents boat the Seven Seas. Lisa and I later moved to Atlanta, due to a new job and then to Charlotte where we still live. Never during any of that time were we more than a phone call apart. There were always the trips to see each other and always plenty of laughs. We shared the joy of the births of our children and the sorrow of the passing of brothers and parents. No greater love could there be between friends, and no greater sorrow could there be at the loss of that friend. Through fate’s guiding hand Lisa and I were there with Sue at Bob:s bedside when he was called home to a much better place. May lasting peace comfort you for all eternity. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace. Shag
